ABOUT RAY SMITH STUDIO
The studio of painter Ray Smith is legendary as a hot spot of creative activity. Located in Gowanus, an industrial section of Brooklyn, what was once an old ice factory has served as a temporary atelier for artists, rehearsal space for bands, and a staging ground for art shows, dinners, parties, conversations, and various collective projects. The birthplace of much of Smith’s variegated production, the studio is also home to recent art collaborations.
Ray Smith Studio first opened its doors in 2009 with a big group show titled "Smithumenta", a salon style exhibition organized by The Bruce High Quality Foundation showcasing over 100 artists. Since then, the studio has produced various projects events, and exhibitions organized by artists, friends, family, and the community at large.
